Mark Segal's Cheetah Odyssey

"Cheetahs are the 'supermodels' of the cat world," photographer Mark Segal writes in his new Fabien Baron-designed monograph, "with their dramatic 'black tears' eyeliner drawing out large amber eyes, their iconic spotted coat clinging to a lithe yet muscular frame, and their mesmerizing saunter taunting both predator and prey." Segal became fascinated by cheetahs fifteen years ago, and this volume contains 150 photographs documenting his obsession alongside the story of his evolving passion for conservation. From adorable cubs sleeping and cavorting in the tall grass, to coalitions of adult males leaping through the air or tearing into fallen prey, to solitary females dozing or nuzzling their overeager young, Segal presents a complete portrait of this "supreme hunter and the fastest land-bound mammal on earth… a skittish creature that generally prefers flight over fight."
