Daido Moriyama: Tales of Tono

In Tales of Tono, his tiny and perfect 1976 photobook composed of black-and-white diptychs and spreads shot in the countryside of northern Honshu, Japan, Daido Moriyama writes, "To me, living one's life as a human being is almost synonymous with being interested in things. I am a bundle of interests: every day from morning until night, this endless curiosity leaves me almost unable to move. Taking photographs is one of my obsessions. Or perhaps it is the other way around: my obsessions force me to take photographs. Essentially, my interests are endless." Featured spread is reproduced from the exquisite new English-language edition of the book co-published by D.A.P. Publishing and Tate Modern, whose exhibition, William Klein + Daido Moriyama is on view through January 20.
