Beyond Shelter author MARIE J. AQUILINO lectures in Portland & Seattle

As the rate of natural disasters increases, so does the need to help rebuild the communities and lives of those affected. Across the world, there is a huge effort to help these communities; trying to bridge the gap that separates short-term solutions from long-term sustainable recovery.

Marie J. Aquilino Lectures on Beyond Shelter: Architecture and Human Dignity
Please join Metropolis Books for two lectures by noted author, activist, humanitarian reconstruction authority and professor of architecture, Marie J. Aquilino at Mercy Corps Action Center in Portland, Oregon, and the University of Washington in Seattle, September 29th and 30th.

Aquilino's lectures will focus upon how some of the world’s most innovative architecture and engineering firms, as well as nonprofits and research centers, are changing the way we think about disaster recovery solutions.

Marie J. Aquilino Lectures on Beyond Shelter: Architecture and Human Dignity

Marie J. Aquilino is a professor of architectural history at the École Spéciale d’Architecture (ESA) in Paris and is developing a program to train architecture students to work in contexts of extreme need in the developing world. Aquilino is collaborating with the International Federation of the Red Cross to set up a working group on the reconstruction of Haiti, and serves as associate program director of the BaSiC Initiative.
